Explosive transport

Leestijd: 1 minuut

Day and night, day in day out, thousands of lorries transport hazardous materials over the Dutch motorways. Lorries working for major chemical companies like Shell and Exxonmobile carry loads the length and breadth of Europe.

East European Drivers
Many of the lorries are driven by Polish or Hungarian drivers. Dutch haulage companies increasingly employ East European drivers, who are far cheaper than their Dutch counterparts.

In the Netherlands, strict rules apply to the transportation of hazardous materials. Drivers need to have a special certificate. What’s the case with the East European drivers? Do they have the same skills and qualifications?
ZEMBLA discovers whether the transportation of hazardous materials is in safe hands.
